Velika Morava

The Velika Morava which translates as the Great Morava is a river in Serbia that runs practically the length of the country yet does not pass into the territory of any other country on its journey.

The Velika Morava is one hundred and eighty five kilometres in length although does have another branch coming from it called Zapadna Morava (Western Morava) which extends the river length to four hundred and ninety three kilometres.

The river starts its life at Stalac in central Serbia where the Zapadna Morava and Juzna Morava join to form the Velika Morava. After flowing for one hundred and eighty five kilometres the river flows into the River Danube. The total discharge into the Danube is estimated at two hundred and fifty five cubic metres a second.

Throughout the total journey of the river only one settlement sits on the banks of the river, this is Ćuprija.
