Venta River

The Venta River starts of its source near the city of Kuršėnai in the county of Šiauliai, Lithuania.

The Venta river is approximately three hundred and forty six kilometres in length and is split equally in length between the countries of Lithuania and Latvia.

The basin area is split differently with sixty six percent being in Latvia. The total basin area of the river is eleven thousand eight hundred square kilometres.

On its journey the river flows from north western Lithuania passing through the city of Mažeikiai before acting as a natural border between Lithuania and Latvia. At this point the river then moves through western Lativa passing through the cities of Kuldīga and Ventspils before finishing at the Baltic Sea.

There are three large tributaries that feed the Venta River, these are the Virvyčia, Varduva and Abava.
