Toyohira River

The Toyohira River (Japanese Toyohira Gawa) is found in Japans second largest Island Hokkaidō and is seventy two and a half kilometres in length. The Toyohira River has a total basin area of eight hundred and fifty nine kilometres squared.

The river is very important to the island as the Toyohira runs through the Islands capital city Sapporo and also provides Sapporo with water supplies. The Toyohira also provides fishing stock for the islanders to catch and eat, although due to urbanisation wild Chub Salmon became extinct by the late 1950's and have been reintroduced to the waters.

Towards the end of the Rivers length there are hot springs (Onsen) where bathing facilities and inns are found which are a major tourist attraction.

The Toyohira finishes its life by flowing into the Ishikari River as a tributary.
