Raba River

The Rába river (Raab in German) starts of life at its source not too far from Bruck An Der Mur in the Austrian state of Styria. The Raba river flows through the states of Styria and Burgenland before crossing the border into Hungary.

After crossing into Hungary the Raba flows through the Hungarian counties of Győr Moson Sopron and Vas before it enters the city of Gyor in the north west of Hungary where it finishes at the Danube as a tributary.

There has been much contention between Austria and Hungary because of the pollution caused to the Raba river by both countries. Austria believes Hungary causes too much pollution in the river while Hungary says that much of the pollution comes from Austria and flows into the Hungarian territory.
