Yangtze River

The Yanghtze river, also known as the Chang Jiang is six thousand three hundred and eighty kilometres in length making it the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world.

The source of the Yangtze river is a glacier not far from the Geladandong mountain in the Qinghai province of China and flows in an easterly direction to the East China sea. At no point does the river travel outside of China.

The source is located 5,042 kilometres above sea level and the rivers total basin areas covers a staggering 1.8 million square kilometres (690,000 square miles).

The majority of the river is navigable by boat with nearly a quarter navigable by ocean faring ferry's which shows the rivers width and depth.

The Yangtze is an important river in the evolution of China and human activity has been found around the Yangtze dating as far back as 27,000 years ago.

Today the river is used as a motorway of boats ferrying goods throughout China as well as fishing which is important for the internal economy of the country.

The Yangtze passes through many important cities in China such as Chizhou, Jiujiang, Anqing, Tongling, Wuhu, Hefei, Chuzhou, Maanshan, Taizhou, Yangzhou, Zhenjian and Nanjing among other.
